Fall Car Care Tips in Gainesville, FL

Fall Car Care Tips in Gainesville, FL

While Florida might experience some fall temperatures, it’s important to ready your vehicle for any inclement weather thanks to hurricane season. Autumn brings many seasonal activities to the Gainesville area, which means your model will undergo road trips, last-minute beach getaways and mountain drives when you travel out of state. We recommend these small tips to get your vehicle fall-ready so you’re prepared for whatever life throws at you. Keep reading below, and remember, our service and parts departments can help with your vehicle’s maintenance and parts installation!

Top 4 Fall Tips

1. Tire Tread and Pressure

As the temperature outside slowly drops, your tires’ pressure will decrease, too. For every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop, one pound of pressure is gone, which means you should check your owner’s manual for the correct tire pressure for your vehicle. Fill your tires with the correct poundage of air at your local gas station, and if your model has its summer tires on, remember to switch to all-season tires for fall. If you’d like to check your tires’ tread, we recommend using the penny method. Grab a penny and place it into the tread grooves. If you see Lincoln’s head, your tread is less than the recommended 2/32” of tread depth (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). If you need a new set of tires, give us a call!

2. Battery

Cooler weather wears down your car’s battery quicker than higher temperatures, which is why checking on your battery’s health in the fall is a good idea. Pop the hood and inspect the battery connections: they should be clean, tight and free of corrosion. Our service department can test your car’s battery, too, and if it’s more than three years old, we recommend a replacement. Surprise battery failures are no fun!

3. Heating and Cooling

Even if you’ve survived the hot Florida summer with your car’s heating and cooling systems broken, it’s not a good idea to leave them in less-than-perfect condition for fall and winter weather. You might not see frost on your windshield in Gainesville, but foggy glass in the morning is a safety hazard. Bring your car, truck or SUV in for an inspection and let’s repair that A/C system.

4. Lights

With daylight savings time in full swing, you’ll have to use your headlights more often. Grab a friend and make sure your headlights, brake lights and high beams are working properly. If a bulb is out, replace it quickly.
